The annual Stacy Smith Fun Races, which began in 2002, are a great opportunity for kids 3-16 years of age to experience the excitement of racing. The races are designed to promote skiing and snowboarding through a fun and supportive race environment that caters to those with little or no competitive experience. The race is sponsored by the Pocatello Ski and Snowboard Association through a fund established by the late Stacy Smith, so entrants only need to purchase a lift ticket since race participation is FREE!

Stacy Smith: A Brief History
Stacy Smith was an avid skier who perfected his style at Lead Draw, near Scout Mountain, Skyline, and Sun Valley. He spent weekends skiing on the runs of Sun Valley and when the snow was gone, he went back to Lead Draw and skied until that was melted, too. Stacy was also an avid angler, and hiker, said to have scaled Mount Borah multiple times.
Stacy died suddenly in 1967. He was survived by his wife, Jessie Smith, who, when she passed in 2000, gave a generous donation to the Pocatello Ski and Snowboard Association in Stacy’s memory. Since then, the funds have been used to promote skiing and snowboarding for youth in the Pocatello community through the Stacy Smith races and to subsidize the transportation costs for PSSA’s annual youth trips.
